Meta at Spring District (former REI Headquarters)
A roughly 400,000-square-foot office campus built for REI's headquarters but sold unused to Facebook (Meta) in 2020.
This eight-acre, roughly 400,000-square-foot office campus in Bellevue's Spring District was developed as the new headquarters for outdoor co-op REI. Designed around a connected, outdoors-inspired campus with landscaped courtyards by GGN, it was nearly complete when the COVID-19 pandemic upended REI's plans.
Rather than occupy the brand-new campus, REI sold it in September 2020 to Facebook (now Meta) for approximately $390 million, part of the social media company's rapid expansion across the Seattle area. REI instead distributed its headquarters functions across multiple smaller sites.
The campus anchors the western edge of the Spring District, a 36-acre, transit-oriented mixed-use neighborhood served by the Spring District/120th light rail station, and stands as a prominent example of the tech industry's reshaping of the Bel-Red corridor.
