Bellevue Botanical Garden
Free 53-acre botanical garden on Wilburton Hill with nine display gardens, including one of America's largest public perennial borders.
The Bellevue Botanical Garden is a 53-acre public garden that opened on June 27, 1992, on Wilburton Hill adjacent to Wilburton Hill Park. Its origins trace to 1981, when the Shorts family donated 7.5 acres to the City of Bellevue; the Jewett family later championed developing the land as a botanical garden, and the city acquired additional acreage during planning and again in 2006.
The garden is organized into nine distinct display areas, including the Native Discovery Garden of Pacific Northwest flora, the Perennial Border (often described as one of the largest public perennial gardens in the country), the Yao Garden, Rhododendron Glen, the Waterwise Garden, the Dahlia Display, the Fuchsia Garden, and the Lost Meadow Trail. The Yao Garden reflects Bellevue's sister-city relationship with Yao, Japan, established in 1977.
Admission is free, supported through the Bellevue Botanical Garden Society and an extensive volunteer corps. The garden is widely known for its winter Garden d'Lights holiday light display and serves as a center for horticultural education in the region.
