Wilburton Trestle
A 975-foot, 102-foot-high 1904 wooden railroad trestle, the longest in the Pacific Northwest, being converted to an Eastrail bridge.
The Wilburton Trestle is a historic wooden railroad trestle in Bellevue, originally completed in 1904 as part of the Northern Pacific Railway's Lake Washington Belt Line between Black River Junction and Woodinville. Standing 102 feet high and 975 feet long, it is the longest wooden trestle in the Pacific Northwest. The timber structure was rebuilt several times over the decades and was decommissioned for rail traffic in 2008.
For most of the 20th century the single-track trestle carried freight over a former arm of Lake Washington, including Boeing aircraft fuselages bound for the Renton assembly plant. After BNSF abandoned the line, the corridor was acquired for public use.
King County Parks began converting the trestle into a multi-use trail crossing as part of Eastrail, the planned 42-mile regional trail linking Bellevue with Renton, Kirkland, Woodinville, Snohomish, and Redmond. The rebuilt trestle carries an 18-foot-wide path with three viewing platforms, funded in part by the state, Amazon, and the City of Bellevue.
